Ride To Carmel’s at Carricalinga
Sunday the 13th of January
Nine riders, one pillion and Barb in her car set off from Maccas at
Darlington on South
Road towards Clarendon. The weather was a lot cooler than it had been
and there had
been a light shower earlier in the day. After Clarendon we turned off at
Kangarilla onto
the McLaren Vale road just a few k’s along this road a group of bikes
passed us going
the opposite way and warned us to slow down as just around the next
corner were a
couple of CFS trucks were pulling a car out of the ditch.
We turned off to take a road that took us to the Kuitpo forest road and
on to the top of
the Willunga Hill, where we regrouped. Everyone had made it so far
without getting lost.
The best part of the ride was from Myponga to Carrickalinga as we rode
over the dam
wall and across the top of the hills along the coast where the views are
spectacular.
When we arrived at Carmel’s we found that she had set out chairs and
tables on her
back veranda and had put on tea, coffee and chocolate cake for all of
us. She has quite
a nice little farm with her silky bantams wandering about the yard.
Carmel, Lee and Barb have been WIMA members from the 80s and it is great
to hear
stories of rides they went on back then. It was nice to have Sandy come
along as I had
not seen her for a while.
Kerry, Brian, Lee, Lisa and myself rode back through Meadows, Lobethal
and through
Chain of Ponds, while the other group went home via Willunga and the
South Road.
Safe riding,
Liv
