RIDE DAY – APRIL 2005

The weather bureau had forecast showers for Sunday 10th, not rain, just showers.  We met at the Caltex Service Station in Pooraka.  The ride was led by myself and attended by 7 others.  From our club was Jacqui riding a Honda VFR, Jennifer on her Honda CBR600, and Liv on her Aprilia Falco 1000.  There was Nigel on a Honda CBR 250, Robert & Debbie on a Honda Shadow riding two up and Bryan all from MRA.  The main reason for Bryan joining the ride, was to get an idea on how WIMA does their marshalling.

The ride took us up through the back of Golden Grove, via Snake Gully through to Kersbrook.  After Kersbrook it was onto Lenswood, via Fox Creek Road with a coffee stop at Woodside.  This gave us a chance to stretch our legs and chat about the scenic roads we had just been on.  I asked the WIMA girls how my marshalling was going.  Last time I led a ride, only 4 riders attended, so no corner marshals were required.  I received the nod of OK, which was most important to me as I was out to make a good impression for WIMA.  Also thanks to Liv, who did a superb job as “Tail-end-Charlie.  We now saw our first sign of rain, just a drizzle and with a friendly wave from the coffee shop owner, who took ages to make that special cup of coffee, (ask Jennifer) we headed out north through Tungkillo, Mt. Pleasant and Springton.  The roads were dry from Tungkillo and we all enjoyed going fast on the Springton to Williamston road.  As we came into Kersbrook for the ride back down through the foothills it had been showering for some time and the roads were rather wet, but it was promising to see blue sky over Adelaide as we all headed to Café Uno for lunch.

It was good to see we had a few eager riders no matter what the weather forecast was.  It turned out to be an enjoyable ride of 180klms, not cold and not too wet.
