DAY TRIP TO CLARE, SUNDAY 27th February, 2005

Razz led the ride to Clare for our February run. Six people met at Caltex Pooraka at 10am. I messaged Razz as I was running late and requested she let me know when they were leaving and I would meet them closer to my house. Slack of me but you know how it is on a Sunday morning. Rob had left my place, gone to his house to pick up his bike then met up with the others at Caltex. Sue and BJ had left earlier and met us in Clare.

We had a lovely sedate ride to Auburn - Razz, Christie Ann, Jenny, Julie, Steve, Rob and I. We passed Dennis and Friddy just after Auburn. Unfortunately Rob also passed a Constable(l think I have misspelled that word), going the other way, who promptly did a U Turn in front of me (lots of brakes applied, heart thumping). The dear constable (wrong again???) decided booking Rob for going over a double white line was not enough and proceeded to follow and harass him to Clare. Please be aware this guy does not like Bike riders especially gorgeous ones like Rob.

Upon arrival at Clare we met up with Shirley Jacqui and Ally who had made the trip from the Pirie area along with some of the FTMA people. Lefty and Megan were there with their adorable children (they are always adorable when you don't own them), especially "Little Lefty" - Harrison who is soooooo cute. There were 24 of us for lunch at the Clare Hotel. After a delicious lunch we talked, laid around, sat around, the retail deprived country people went to Target. We then headed in various directions home. Ally and Darren rode back to Adelaide with us, Ally on her 1100 Yamaha V Star (Do you know where to turn the reserve on now. Ally???) I am also a little concerned about her Girl Rider hat - what exactly does that mean????? Dennis and Friddy turned off at Tarlee to head back to the Riverlands - guess next time we will be catching up will be the infamous Friddy's Weekend at Barmera.

All in all a great ride and the first I've been on for a long time. Although we had a good turn out for lunch I would have liked to have seen more WIMA from Adelaide join us. I think we should all make an effort, as discussed at the WIMA meeting, to become more involved with the club. I would love to catch up with more of you on the rides. We always have such a fun time. Having said that I do understand we can not always make the set ride dates, however, nothing is stopping us ringing around and organising a ride for another time. Do yourselves a favour and take the time to have a ride with "the girls" now and then. Catch you all next time.

PS: Rob called in to the Clare Police Station and had a chat to the Head Honcho regarding our Constable (that word just never seems right). The Head Honcho phoned him the other day and mentioned they didn't want to dampen this young Constable's (still doesn't look right but sounds correct) enthusiasm as he is their most "productive" policeman. He is said to be issuing 500 fines per month (traffic infringement notices) which means he's working a 5 day week approximately 25 fines a day at an average of $200 per fine (Rob's was well in excess of that) which is about $1,200,000 per year less his wages and operating costs. I'm glad this is only for safety reasons and not revenue raising as imagine how many people would be fined if it was revenue raising. Rob accepted the fact he didn't do the right thing and didn't have a problem with the fact he was fined it was the young Constable's (Hmm) approach and attitude.
