WIMA AGM GOLD COAST QUEENSLAND 18™ TO 20™ FEBRUARY 2005 Quite a few girls had ridden to the Gold Coast from down south for the AGM. Some like myself had come by plane. The complex we stayed in was nice with large apartments sleeping three or four with balconies, undercover secure parking, pool and also within walking distance to the beach. Friday evening I caught up with Margaret Bath and husband Tiger. Margaret is getting around very well but still with the aid of a stick. Her injured leg still doesn't look the best but functions well.
Saturday 9am started with the State Reps Meeting. The National Treasurer's report was presented. In it she said that we were still had more expenses than income which was why the balance was less each year. The rise in indemnity insurance was also discussed. Another topic discussed was the Hospitality list, suggesting Membership Officers keep relevant details and act as contact person.
At 11am the AGM Meeting commenced. Note change of time as this is when future AGM Meetings will start from now on. About 40 members were present. First there were reports from the National Committee followed by State Reps reports. Apparently WIMA Western Australia had lost a lot of members to a break away group and did not have a representative at the AGM.
Queensland has now 100 members due to new life brought into branch from the local Pink Ribbon Ride and good advertising. Kerri Smith is very motivated to getting WIMA known and the Queensland Committee will take on the dual roles of National and State Committees. Websites were discussed and most branches have one up and running.
There will be an increase in subs to $30 next year with no half year subscription for new members. The attractive flyers put out by NSW branch will be available with certain alterations for branches to purchase for promoting WIMA. Also the Financial Year will be from 1st January to 31st December, but memberships will still go from 1s* February to 31st January.
It has been put forward by the International Committee that the name Captain should be changed to President. This will be voted on at the International Rally.
Sheonagh Ravensdale 2003 International Captain is hoping to raise money for a refuge and educational centre in India for girls under 16. WIMA UK launched a scroll which travelled around the UK and Ireland raising money. Shoenagh wishes to have this scroll visit every WIMA country in the world finishing at the World Women in Motorcycling Conference in Athens, Georgia, USA in June 2006. She is putting forward a proposal that WIMA accepts this project to be the first Official WIMA international Charity for at least one year ideally until the US Rally in June 2006. The Meeting finished about 1.30 pm. Saturday evening there was a barbecue by the pool and on Sunday morning there was a farewell by the Queensland Committee.
Merchandise will remain the same although Angle Trevaskis former National Captain was concerned about the cost of sending merchandise around Australia every time the National Committee changes states.
